Three Steps From Your First Call To Care Beginning

Most families who call No Place Like Home Care have been researching home care for weeks — sometimes months. By the time they call, they know they need help. What they're not always sure about is what happens next. Here's exactly what to expect.

Step 1 — The Conversation

When you call or text us at (610) 492-6632, you'll speak directly with someone who can answer your questions, understand your situation, and help you determine whether No Place Like Home Care is the right fit.

There is no script. There is no sales pressure. We'll ask about your loved one's daily needs, current challenges, and what kind of support would make the biggest difference. If we're not the right agency for your situation, we'll tell you honestly — and point you toward someone who is.

Step 2 — The Free In-Home Assessment

If we're a fit, we'll schedule a free in-home assessment at a time that works for you. This visit is conducted by Kelly Tyrrell, RN, or

a member of our nurse-led care team.

During the assessment, we:

  • Walk through your loved one's daily routines and what's become harder to manage safely

  • Evaluate the home environment for fall risks and safety concerns

  • Discuss your scheduling needs, your loved one's personality & preferences, & what a successful care relationship looks like

  • Review payment options, including long-term care insurance, VA Aid and Attendance benefits, and private pay

  • Answer every question you have — about our caregivers, our process, our rates, and our backup coverage policy

The assessment takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes. It is completely free. There is no obligation to start services.

Step 3 — Care Begins

Once you're ready to move forward, we develop a personalized care plan, select and match the right caregiver for your loved one's specific needs and personality, and confirm a start date.

Most families begin services within 24 to 72 hours of completing the intake process. For hospital discharges or urgent situations, same-day starts are available — call us before the discharge date so we have time to prepare.

Qualifying new clients receive their first 4 hours of care complimentary.

What To Have Ready For Your Free Assessment

You don't need to prepare anything formal — this is a conversation, not an interview. But having a few things available helps us build the most accurate care plan from day one.

Helpful to have available during the assessment:

  • A list of current medications, dosages, and prescribing physicians

  • A summary of recent hospitalizations or health events

  • Your long-term care insurance policy information (if applicable)

  • VA benefit documents (if your loved one is a veteran or surviving spouse)

  • Emergency contacts and any existing legal documents (power of attorney, advance directive)

  • A general sense of your loved one's daily routine — when they wake, when they eat, when they're most active, and when they struggle most

If you don't have everything on this list — don't worry. We've helped families pull together everything they need. The assessment is designed to meet you where you are, not where you think you should be.

What Families Tell Us They Were Looking For

When families call No Place Like Home Care, they aren't just looking for a caregiver. They're looking for something they've found hard to find: An agency that is honest, that is actually nurse-led, and that doesn't treat them like an account number.

Here's what we hear most often after families start with us:

"I didn't realize I could ask for a replacement caregiver without it being a whole situation."

"I had no idea the assessment was actually done by a nurse."

"I kept putting off the call because I thought it would be complicated.

It wasn't."

If you've been researching home care agencies and something keeps feeling off — too salesy, too impersonal, too hard to get a straight answer — that's worth paying attention to.

Frequently Asked Questions

About Getting Started

Do I need a doctor's referral to start home care?

No. A physician's order is not required to begin non-medical home care through No Place Like Home Care. You can call us, schedule your free in-home assessment, and begin services without any clinical authorization or medical paperwork. A doctor's referral is only required for skilled medical home health care — nursing, physical therapy, wound care — which is a different type of service that No Place Like Home Care does not provide.

How quickly can care begin after I first contact you?

Most families begin services within 24 to 72 hours of completing the

intake assessment and onboarding process. For urgent situations — an unexpected hospital discharge, a sudden safety concern, or a family caregiver who can no longer continue — same-day starts are available. Call us before the discharge date or before the crisis point so we have time to match the right caregiver and conduct the assessment. The earlier you call, the faster care can begin.

Is the in-home assessment free? Is there any obligation?

Yes — the in-home assessment is completely free of charge. There is no obligation to begin services following the assessment. It is designed to be a no-pressure evaluation of your loved one's needs and your family's situation, conducted by Kelly Tyrrell, RN or a member of our nurse-led care team. We do not charge a consultation fee, and we will not pressure you to sign a service agreement during or after the visit.

Who actually conducts the assessment?

At No Place Like Home Care, the intake assessment is conducted by

Kelly Tyrrell, RN — our founder and CEO — or by a member of our

nurse-led care team. Every care plan is personally reviewed and

overseen by Kelly. This is what it means to be a nurse-led agency:

the registered nurse isn't a credential on a website. She's the one

building your loved one's care plan and selecting the caregiver who

will be in your home.

What is the minimum service commitment?

No Place Like Home Care requires a 4-hour minimum per visit and a

16-hour weekly minimum commitment. Within those parameters, scheduling is built around your loved one's routine and your family's availability — not ours. Many families start with two or three visits per week and scale up as needs grow, all without needing to restart the relationship or change caregivers.

Does long-term care insurance cover home care services?

Most modern long-term care insurance (LTCI) policies do cover non-medical home care when services are provided through a licensed home care agency. No Place Like Home Care is a licensed Pennsylvania home care agency and accepts LTCI directly. We provide all the documentation your insurance carrier requires to activate your benefit period and process reimbursement. If you're unsure whether your policy covers our services, bring your LTCI documents to the assessment — we can help you understand your coverage during the visit.

What counties and cities does No Place Like Home Care serve?

No Place Like Home Care serves adults and seniors aged 18 and older throughout Berks, Lehigh, Lancaster, and Montgomery Counties in southeastern Pennsylvania. We serve families in Reading, Blandon, Wyomissing, Fleetwood, Kutztown, Allentown, Bethlehem, Emmaus, Lancaster, Lititz, Ephrata, Pottstown, Norristown, Royersford, and all surrounding communities within our four-county service area. If you are unsure whether we serve your specific location, call us at (610) 492-6632 and we'll confirm coverage immediately.

Can a caregiver start on the same day my loved one is discharged from the hospital?

Yes. No Place Like Home Care can deploy a caregiver the same day as a hospital discharge when the need is urgent. No physician's order is required to begin our non-medical support services. If your loved one is being discharged from Reading Hospital, Penn State Health St. Joseph, Lehigh Valley Hospital, Penn Medicine Lancaster General, or Pottstown Hospital — call us before the discharge date. We'll complete the intake assessment in advance so a caregiver is ready the moment your loved one arrives home.

What is the first 4 hours complimentary offer?

Qualifying new clients receive their first 4 hours of care complimentary when they complete the intake assessment and place a payment method on file. This offer is designed to let your loved one and their new caregiver build genuine rapport before your first invoice — so you know the fit is right before the commitment begins. Ask about eligibility when you call or during your free in-home assessment.

What if my loved one doesn't want a caregiver in the house?

This is one of the most common concerns families bring to the assessment — and it rarely plays out the way families fear. Resistance to home care is almost always about loss of independence, not about the care itself. The approach that works best is introducing the caregiver slowly and framing the support as something that helps the family, not as something being done to the parent. No Place Like Home Care selects caregivers for personality fit, not just availability. When the right person walks through the door — someone patient, calm, and matched to your loved one's temperament — most resistance fades within the first few visits. If it doesn't, we replace the caregiver. There is no penalty and no process. We find the right fit.

Ready to Talk? We Are.

There's no wrong time to call. Whether your situation is urgent or you're still in the early stages of planning, No Place Like Home Care is ready to have an honest conversation with your family. Most families tell us they wish they had called sooner.
